Support for Independent Living Training for Community Reintegration
To promote the mental health of citizens in Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province, the Paju-si Mental Health Welfare Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) operates the ‘Neulbom House’ short-term residential experience home on an ongoing basis to support the independence of individuals with mental illnesses.
According to a survey conducted independently by the Center on the housing types of individuals with mental illnesses, the majority have difficulty living independently after discharge due to challenges in daily life or family conflicts, and there is insufficient quantitative and qualitative service provision due to a lack of mental rehabilitation facilities for community independence.
Accordingly, the Center has been operating the ‘Short-term Residential Experience Home’ since October 2020 with the aim of supporting adaptation and assistance in the community through independent living training based on therapeutic residential spaces to ensure stable reintegration into the community and prevent relapse.
The ‘Neulbom House’ short-term residential experience home accommodates three men and three women. The stay period ranges from six months to one year, and it is operated by dividing into admission training and short-term experience (one-day independent living) programs.
The admission training consists of ▲individual programs ▲life training and independence support programs ▲regular meetings, and to reduce resistance to admission and provide experience opportunities, a ‘One-day Independent Living’ admission experience program is operated for registered members, offering financial management education and daily life training.
