Wishing for the Continued Harmony and Prosperity of Geochang
Geochang County, Gyeongnam, announced on the 10th that it held a "Torch Relay Welcome Ceremony" at the cultural rest area in front of the county office, wishing for the successful hosting of the "105th National Sports Festival" and the "44th National Para Sports Festival."
The torch was lit at four locations: Manisan, the sacred mountain of the Korean people, Tongyeong Jeseungdang, Gimhae Gujibong, and Hapcheon Chogye Park. After being enshrined at the Gyeongnam Provincial Office on the 7th, the torch departed from the provincial office and arrived in Geochang on the 9th, passing through Sancheong and Hamyang.
The event began with a performance of "Geochang Maegu Gut" by Geochang's traditional percussion troupe "Neonadeuri Pungmulpae," followed by lively performances from the youth dance teams "Mix&Mix" and "Soul."
The torch relay featured 20 Geochang residents as runners, including Gu Inmo, the mayor of Geochang, and Yoo Inhwan, president of the Geochang Sports Council. The torch was carried for a total of 927 meters from the Geochang County Office rotary to Geochang Middle School.
Mayor Gu stated, "I am proud as a resident that the kendo competition of the National Sports Festival will be held at the Geochang County Multipurpose Gymnasium immediately after its completion. Just as our citizens have overcome hardships through the spirit of challenge, courage, and passion in sports, I hope this event will bring unity and continued prosperity to Geochang County."
