On the 8th, Paju City in Gyeonggi Province appointed 16-year-old Kim Ji-hyun as the 31st Youth One-Day Honorary Mayor.
Currently serving as the Vice Chairperson of the Paju Youth Participation Committee and Chairperson of the Youth Operating Committee at Unjeong Youth Culture House, Honorary Mayor Kim Ji-hyun was appointed by Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City and spent the day handling tasks related to her areas of interest, education and youth affairs.
After the appointment ceremony, Honorary Mayor Kim Ji-hyun moved to Gyoha Library to receive a report on library operations and experienced various services such as information services provided by the library, practical education integrating knowledge through books, and various programs for Paju citizens.
In the afternoon, reflecting suggestions proposed by student Kim Ji-hyun, she visited the Paju Girls’ Short-Term Youth Shelter to learn about frequently asked questions and the current status of its operations. She then moved to the Paju Youth Counseling and Welfare Center to participate in youth counseling, concluding her day’s schedule.
Honorary Mayor Kim Ji-hyun said, “It was a valuable time to learn a lot about Paju City’s education and youth policies, which I have always been interested in. I hope more opportunities will be provided so that young people can take an interest in Paju’s policies.” She added, “Based on this experience, I will actively propose policies that can help from the perspective of youth.”
Paju City provides opportunities for citizens active in various fields to participate in city administration by appointing them as one-day honorary mayors through public recruitment and recommendations in the first and second halves of the year.
