Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is speaking at the Hwaseong International Theme Park IP Attraction Declaration Ceremony on the 10th.
Paramount from the United States will participate as a global brand partner in the Gyeonggi-do Hwaseong International Theme Park development project, which involves an investment of 4.5 trillion KRW.
On the 10th, Gyeonggi-do held a ceremony at Hwaseong City Hall to announce the attraction of a global brand for Hwaseong International Theme Park and officially declared that Paramount has been selected as the global brand partner for the park.
The event was attended by Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi-do; Jeong Myeong-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong; Lim Young-rok, President of Shinsegae Property; and Marie Marks, Head of Paramount Entertainment Division, among others.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon stated, "We want to establish a theme park towering in the west, complementing Everland in the east as the cultural industry hub of Gyeonggi-do," adding, "If a tourism program linked with the West Coast is developed through this project, it will become not only a domestic but also an international landmark. We have resolved a 17-year-long thirst with this."
He continued, "In February, we announced the Gyeonggi Western SOC Grand Development Vision, which includes infrastructure such as roads and railways with a total budget of 14 trillion KRW until 2040. Hwaseong City is the most important central axis in the western development," emphasizing, "The establishment of the theme park will drive the success of this grand development. We will actively support Hwaseong City."
Marie Marks, Head of Paramount Entertainment Division, said, "Starbay City is an excellent location easily accessible to both domestic and international visitors, with a large site capable of introducing various amusement facilities and nearby tourist resources, making it the optimal place for a theme park," promising, "We will collaborate with Shinsegae, which has the capability to create spatial value, to build a globally recognized theme park."
With Paramount selected as the global partner, Shinsegae Hwaseong will develop the theme park by introducing brands and characters owned by Paramount.
Paramount is a global content distributor and one of the five major Hollywood studios in the United States, owning numerous channels including Paramount Pictures, broadcaster CBS, children’s cable channel Nickelodeon, and music cable channel MTV.
The Hwaseong International Theme Park, utilizing the Paramount brand, is expected to be an unprecedented theme park and an Asian landmark where visitors can directly experience the fantastic content world of Paramount, which has so far only been accessible through media, offering enjoyment, inspiration, and healing.
The Hwaseong International Theme Park is a large-scale project developed by Shinsegae Hwaseong Co., Ltd. (Shinsegae Property + Shinsegae Construction) on the east side of Songsan Green City in Sinwoe-ri, Namyang-eup, Hwaseong City, covering an area of 4.230㎢ with a project cost of 4.57 trillion KRW (100% private investment). The project has faced setbacks, including two previous cancellations.
The plan is to complete the tourism complex development plan in the second half of 2025 and aim for opening in 2029. Gyeonggi-do and Hwaseong City plan to actively provide administrative support for the smooth development and opening of Hwaseong International Theme Park.
Gyeonggi-do expects that the creation of a complex resort-type theme park, combining entertainment facilities such as theme parks and water parks with Starfield, hotels, resorts, and golf courses, will create about 110,000 jobs and attract 30 million tourists annually, thereby revitalizing domestic tourism and generating a production inducement effect of 70.6 trillion KRW.
In particular, it is seen as an important axis that will lead infrastructure expansion and economic development on the Gyeonggi West Coast, linked with the ongoing ‘Gyeonggi Western Grand Development’ project.
