The Gyeonggi Province Audit Committee is conducting a verification process for priority and exclusive parking spaces for pregnant women at public office buildings.
It was found that 52% of public offices in Gyeonggi-do lack adequate parking spaces for pregnant women.
The Gyeonggi-do Audit Committee announced on the 10th that, ahead of Pregnant Women’s Day (October 10), it conducted a special audit from the 2nd to the 13th of last month on 165 public offices in the province regarding the installation and operation of priority and exclusive parking spaces for pregnant women, identifying 88 issues in 87 offices, accounting for 52.7% of the total.
The inspection results revealed that 23 public offices, which are required by related ordinances to install parking spaces for pregnant women, failed to comply. Additionally, issues such as missing guide signs (9 cases), poor floor paint quality (6 cases), and difficulty in identifying guide signs (3 cases) were pointed out.
Cases were also detected where the installation rate of parking spaces for pregnant women fell short or where the width and length of parking spaces violated regulations; each case was ordered to be reinstalled accordingly.
The Audit Committee particularly recommended that the 45 offices not obligated by ordinance to install such parking spaces actively consider installing them.
Institutions notified of these results may request a re-examination within one month regarding any required dispositions or measures.
Ansangseop, Chairman of the Gyeonggi-do Audit Committee, stated, "This was an important audit to consider pregnant women using public facilities and to create a birth-friendly social environment," adding, "We will continue to contribute practically to the convenience of residents’ lives through on-site inspections and audits."
