Partnered with Hanwha General Insurance to Provide Insurance
Also Conducting Digital Gap Education for the Elderly
SK Telecom announced on the 10th that it will provide visitors to its nationwide official certified agencies with a one-year free opportunity to use cyber financial crime insurance and conduct education to bridge the digital divide among the elderly.
Starting today, SKT has partnered with Hanwha General Insurance to offer all its users who visit official certified agencies a chance to use cyber financial crime insurance free of charge for one year.
Any SKT subscriber can receive a QR code to subscribe to the insurance product from Hanwha General Insurance simply by visiting an official certified agency, without needing to sign up for any other service.
The insurance product compensates for unauthorized withdrawals and payment damages caused by cyber financial crimes such as voice phishing, smishing, and pharming. In particular, senior visitors aged 65 and older, who are vulnerable to cyber financial crimes, are covered up to 5 million KRW, while customers under 65 are covered up to 2 million KRW.
The free insurance coverage automatically terminates after one year, and if desired, users can extend the insurance coverage by paying a fee.
Additionally, SKT produces educational content to help senior users learn how to use smartphones independently and displays this content on tablet PCs for visitors at official certified agencies. Initially, agency staff guide visitors sequentially, and later, visitors can follow the tutorials on their own to internalize the knowledge.
The educational content includes instructions on basic function settings such as adjusting font size and brightness on smartphone screens, as well as app usage guidance like setting up KakaoTalk profiles and sharing YouTube links. For those who want additional learning, video SMS messages are sent to visitors so they can review the material after returning home.
Kim Sang-beom, SK Telecom’s head of distribution, said, "SK Telecom agencies are evolving into spaces where anyone can visit comfortably and frequently," adding, "Our long-term goal is to provide sincere services to subscribers and establish these stores as beloved places in the local community."
