Out-of-town Visitors Account for 39.6% of Total, Realizing a 'Nationwide Walking Destination'
Wonju City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Won Kang-su), announced on the 10th that Chiaksan Dullegil, which has become a premium walking travel route due to its rich historical, cultural, and ecological resources and beautiful scenery, has reached 3,000 people who have completed the entire trail in 3 years and 4 months since its opening in June 2021.
The 3,000th person to complete the 140 km Chiaksan Dullegil is Ms. Eum Hae-sook, a resident of Gaewoon-dong, Wonju City.
Won Gang-su, the mayor of Wonju City, presented a certificate of completion and a souvenir to Eum Hae-sook, the 3,000th person to complete the Chiaksan Dullegil trail, at his office on the 8th, and handed over a congratulatory bouquet. Ms. Eum enjoys hiking regularly and has maintained her health by climbing famous mountains nationwide with her husband. After moving from Gwangmyeong City four years ago, she continued to enjoy hiking Chiaksan and started the challenge of Chiaksan Dullegil two years ago.
On the 8th, Mayor Won Kang-su presented Ms. Eum with a certificate of completion and a commemorative gift at his office, along with a congratulatory bouquet wishing her continued active participation in Wonju City.
Meanwhile, with the cooperation of the Chiaksan National Park Office, Chiaksan Dullegil, created along the perimeter of Chiaksan, is a representative walking travel route in Gangwon Province, boasting rich historical, cultural, and ecological resources and beautiful scenery. Since its opening, over 1.18 million people have visited the trail in 3 years and 3 months.
Statistics on the 3,000 completers show: ① Gender - Male (1,440 people / 48%), Female (1,560 people / 52%); ② Age groups - 20s (47 people / 1.6%), 30s (70 people / 2.3%), 40s (230 people / 7.6%), 50s (1,031 people / 34.4%), 60s (1,293 people / 43.2%), 70 and above (329 people / 10.9%), with a high participation rate of 88.5% among those aged 50 and above; ③ By region - Wonju (1,813 people / 60.4%), Seoul (427 people / 14.2%), Gyeonggi (384 people / 12.8%), Incheon (68 people / 2.3%), Others (308 people / 10.3%). The 39.6% of completers from outside the area show that it has established itself as a nationwide walking destination.
In particular, the Ungok Solbaram Forest Trail and Gukhyeongsa Solbaram Forest Trail within Course 1 of Chiaksan Dullegil see over 1,000 visitors daily experiencing barefoot walking, and the pine forest trail in the Jatnamu Forest section of Course 11, Hangateo-gil, is well known as a healing forest trail, attracting more than 500 users daily.
Mayor Won Kang-su stated, “We will do our best to make Chiaksan Dullegil a walking travel destination by expanding facilities for visitors’ convenience and developing various content.”
