Reflecting Regional Characteristics: Planning G-Valley Section, Geumcheon District Core Section, and Distribution Market Section
Expressing the Necessity of This Plan and Proposing It to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport through Seoul City
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it has prepared the "Basic Plan for the Development of the Upper Space of the Railway" for the entire section of the Gyeongbu Line passing through Geumcheon-gu (5.6 km) in preparation for the undergrounding of the Gyeongbu Line railway.
This plan follows the Special Act on Railway Undergrounding and Integrated Development of Railway Sites enacted on January 30 this year, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's plan to select a pilot project for integrated railway undergrounding development in December.
The pilot project for integrated railway undergrounding development is proposed first by metropolitan local governments (special cities, metropolitan cities, special self-governing cities, provinces), and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport selects projects by evaluating the necessity, feasibility, and ripple effects of the projects.
The district proposed the necessity and feasibility of the integrated railway undergrounding development pilot project for the Gyeongbu Line (Seoul Station to Seoksu Station) to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, along with the "Basic Plan for the Development of the Upper Space of the Gyeongbu Line."
Reflecting regional characteristics, the district divided the upper space into three sections: the G-Valley section centered on Gasan Digital Complex Station and Doksan Station, the Geumcheon-gu Core section centered on Geumcheon-gu Office Station, and the Distribution Market section centered on Siheung Distribution Market.
The G-Valley section is envisioned as the center of K-industry, strengthening connectivity and support functions with industrial complexes by housing office facilities, accommodation facilities, startup support facilities, and residential facilities.
The Geumcheon-gu Core section specializes in mixed functions such as commerce, business, culture, and residence, and plans to become a symbol of the southwestern region by establishing new transportation infrastructure linked with Anyangcheon, including urban air mobility (UAM) and the Anyangcheon waterway.
The Distribution Market section plans to significantly improve accessibility to Anyangcheon by establishing an east-west pedestrian system in connection with the urban high-tech logistics complex project.
Additionally, the plan includes creating an "open cultural space" by developing river-linked resting areas, cultural facilities, and street parks along the Anyangcheon embankment and waterfront space.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "We are closely consulting with related organizations to ensure that the Gyeongbu Line (Seoul Station to Seoksu Station) is selected as a target line for integrated railway undergrounding development," adding, "We will make every effort to have the plan for the development of the upper space of the Gyeongbu Line railway and the management direction of the surrounding area, reflecting regional characteristics, incorporated into the integrated railway undergrounding development so that the Geumcheon Greenway connecting transportation, industry, and culture can be realized."
