The 29th Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival, set against the backdrop of prehistoric times, will be held from the 11th to the 13th at the Amsa-dong archaeological site in Seoul.
Gangdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 10th that the Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival will be held under the theme "Meeting the Story of 6000 Years Today," starting with the opening ceremony at 7:30 PM on the 11th at the main stage, "Land of Fire."
On the first day of the festival, an opening performance symbolizing the four elements used in pottery making?fire, water, earth, and wind?will be presented along with a themed performance and a spectacular drone show. Following this, celebratory performances will feature trot singer Jin Sung, Lee Jae-hoon of Cool, and Ba-da, known for her explosive vocal power.
On the 12th, events involving local residents will take place, including the reenactment of Seoul City Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 10, "Bawijeol Village Hosangnori," a "Festival for Families with Disabled Members" featuring a performance team of people with severe disabilities, and the "Gangdong Prehistoric Song Contest." The closing performance on the 13th will showcase passionate stages by Kim Yeon-ja, Kim Wan-sun, and Kim Tae-woo of g.o.d, culminating with a dazzling fireworks show to mark the festival’s finale.
One of the festival’s main programs, "Prehistoric Night Walk," is a nighttime event themed around light and will be held for the first time at the Amsa-dong archaeological site. Participants can explore the site with cultural tourism guides who will provide easy and engaging explanations of the hidden stories there.
At the "Land of Earth," the "Media Facade" will project a video capturing 6000 years of history onto the exterior wall of the Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site Museum, complemented by live performances from actual dancers, vividly bringing together scenes of the past and present. Additionally, there are programs for the whole family to enjoy a time travel experience back to prehistoric times.
Moreover, linked to the Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site Museum’s first special exhibition, "Prehistoric Artists," there will be art-making experience programs such as "Prehistoric Era Mural Painting" and "Making Clay Figurines," as well as street performances including a children's puppet show, magic show "Joseon Eolleunsoe," "Prehistoric Rock Game," and the "Prehistoric Troupe" by the Gwangdae Brothers.
This year’s Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival has greatly improved accessibility with the opening of the Subway Line 8 Amsa Station Park Station just a 10-minute walk from the venue. Visitors arriving by car can use temporary parking lots set up at Seonsa Elementary School, Seonsa High School, and Sinam Middle School. During the festival, vehicle access will be restricted on Olympic-ro (from Seonsa Elementary to the entrance of Seowon Village) and the beginning of Olympic-ro 108-gil, so please be aware of road controls around the venue.
District Mayor Lee Soo-hee said, "On a cool autumn day, this will be a time to newly encounter 6000 years of history as a story of today," adding, "I hope families and friends visit the Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival, where historical value breathes, and fully experience the charm of Gangdong-gu."
