The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 10th that a voluntary recall will be conducted due to manufacturing defects found in 607,502 units across 10 vehicle models produced or imported and sold by Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, GM Asia Pacific Regional Headquarters, and GM Korea.
Starting from the 11th, a recall will be carried out for 312,744 units of two models, including the Hyundai Sonata, due to a design error in the airbag control device that may damage internal components and prevent airbag deployment. Additionally, 285,327 units of four Kia models, including the Kia Forte, are also subject to recall for the same reason.
Moreover, the Kia EV9 has been under recall since the 7th due to non-compliance with safety standards. This affects 8,592 units with an electronic brake software error that causes the remote-controlled parking function to malfunction.
Similarly, 839 units of three models, including the Escalade from GM Asia Pacific and GM Korea, are currently undergoing corrective action since the 8th due to non-compliance with safety standards caused by an electronic brake software error. Specifically, the warning light does not illuminate when brake fluid is low.
Regarding the recall, each manufacturer plans to notify vehicle owners of the corrective measures via mail and mobile text messages. If a vehicle owner has repaired the defect at their own expense, they can apply for reimbursement from the manufacturer. Whether a vehicle is subject to recall and detailed defect information can be checked by entering the vehicle number or chassis number on the Automobile Recall Center website.
