Gyeongnam Office of Education and Hangeul Organization Hold Ceremony for the 578th Hangeul Day Anniversary

The Gyeongnam Office of Education and a Korean language organization held a ceremony on the 9th at the Education Office's Gonggam Hall to commemorate the 578th Hangul Day.


The ceremony included a congratulatory speech by Superintendent Park, a reading of the Hunminjeongeum preface by Chairman Park of the Masan Oesol Association, a celebratory performance, a presentation of the Superintendent's Award, a screening of the winning works from the Korean Language Purification Contest, and singing of the Hangul Day song.


The event was attended by Superintendent Park Jonghun, officials from the Office of Education, Lee Sangu, Gyeongnam Branch President of the Korean Language Society, Park Changkyu, President of the Masan Oesol Association and its executives, award-winning students and their teachers, parents, and about 200 others.

In this year's Korean Language Purification Contest video competition, about 1,410 elementary and middle school students from the province participated, with 119 entries from elementary students and 354 from middle school students.


This year, the group award went to Masan Sinwol Elementary School and Bonggok Middle School. The top prize in the elementary division was awarded to 35 works, including the entry by Kim Nayeon, Yoon Sunghyun, and Yoon Seoyeon from Sacheon Munseon Elementary School. The top prize in the middle school division went to 76 works, including the entry by Kim Seonga and Park Nayoon from Geoje Okpo Middle School.


President Lee stated, "Let us make even greater efforts to nurture the spirit of loving our language and script, taking pride in Gyeongnam as the home of Hangul appreciation."


Superintendent Park said, "Building on this year's event, we will prepare an even more meaningful and diverse celebration next year for the 80th anniversary of Liberation, making it an event where students, parents, Hangul-related organizations, and all residents of the province can participate together."
