Sharjah is a major economic hub connecting Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the UAE. It is promoting smart infrastructure development and digital transformation. This visit was arranged at the request of the Sharjah Digital Department, which has a strong interest in adopting the latest technologies in the mobility sector. The session was designed to review Kakao Mobility’s future mobility technologies and explore possibilities for future collaboration.
Kakao Mobility introduced its vision for future mobility technologies such as autonomous driving, robotics, and digital twins, along with actual service application cases. The session included demonstrations of its mobile mapping system (MMS) implemented with proprietary technologies like satellite navigation system (GNSS) correction and spatiotemporal synchronization, as well as autonomous vehicles. The robot delivery service 'BRING,' operating within the Pangyo headquarters, was also showcased.
The Sharjah Digital Department delegation showed great interest in Kakao Mobility’s autonomous driving technology and overseas expansion cases based on big data related to global vehicle calls and platform operation know-how. The delegation asked numerous questions about the technologies, equipment, and infrastructure that enable autonomous driving operations in complex urban environments like large cities. Both sides exchanged in-depth opinions on cooperation plans to provide future mobility services within Sharjah.
Ryu Geung-seon, CEO of Kakao Mobility, said, "Following visits from key figures at the Singapore Ministry of Transport and the Saudi Data and AI Authority, the visit by senior officials from the Sharjah Digital Department confirmed the high level of interest in Kakao Mobility’s technology among major global institutions. We will seek collaboration opportunities with various countries to establish our technology as a core infrastructure in the global future mobility industry."
Sheikh Saud expressed, "It was very impressive to see advanced future mobility technologies such as autonomous driving being practically implemented in complex urban areas. We hope that Kakao Mobility representatives will visit Sharjah in the future to continue discussions on broad cooperation opportunities between both sides."
