Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Checks on Elders at Hyo-do Suk-sik Senior Center and Listens to Their Opinions

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, visited the ‘Hyodo Suksik Senior Center’ located in Changjeon-dong, Mapo-gu, on the afternoon of the 8th.

The ‘Hyodo Suksik Senior Center’ is a communal living facility created by Mapo-gu for elderly people living alone in poor housing conditions and isolation, which opened in May.

Each floor of the ‘Hyodo Suksik Senior Center,’ designed with separate living spaces for men and women, includes eight private bedrooms and shared kitchens, living rooms, restrooms, and laundry rooms.

In addition, social workers reside on-site to monitor the daily lives and well-being of the elderly and provide care services to address social isolation, resulting in increasing satisfaction among residents.

In fact, there was an incident where a resident pressed the emergency bell installed in their individual room during a late-night emergency, and a neighboring resident saved their life, highlighting the importance of communal living.

On this day, Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, along with staff from related departments, toured the ‘Hyodo Suksik Senior Center’ and took time to listen to the opinions and concerns of the resident seniors.

Mayor Park Gang-su said, “I hope the Hyodo Suksik Senior Center, prepared for a stable and healthy old age for the elderly, becomes a new solution to senior housing issues. Mapo-gu will actively promote elderly welfare projects with the belief that everyone is both a parent and a child.”

Mapo-gu is currently recruiting elderly residents to move into the ‘Hyodo Suksik Senior Center.’
