The Presidential Office stated on the 8th that President Yoon Suk-yeol has not been in contact with political broker Myung Tae-gyun, who is involved in the so-called 'nomination interference' allegations related to First Lady Kim Keon-hee.
The Presidential Office explained that "after the president began his political career but before joining the People Power Party, in early July 2021, a senior official of the People Power Party visited his residence bringing Mr. Myung, and the president met him for the first time."
It continued, "Shortly after, another politician from the People Power Party visited the residence bringing Mr. Myung for a second meeting," emphasizing that "the president met the two politicians separately at his residence because they requested confidentiality, and Mr. Myung came to the residence not due to any personal friendship with the president."
The Presidential Office added, "Around the final stages of the primary race, a People Power Party politician advised Mr. Myung to keep his distance after seeing him visit the president's regional campaign site," and stated, "the president recalls having no text or phone communication with Mr. Myung thereafter."
Furthermore, it explained, "At that time, the president was receiving advice related to the presidential election from experienced political figures, and there was no reason to listen to advice from someone whose activities were unknown."
