Construction of Corporate Research Center and Cultural Welfare Center with 30 Billion Won in State Funds
Daegu Catholic University held an opening ceremony for the 'Gyeongbuk Gyeongsan Industry-Academia Convergence District' at the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District on the 8th.
About 200 people attended the ceremony, including President Sung Han-gi, Gyeongsan Mayor Cho Hyunil, and representatives from companies located in the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District.
In 2019, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy selected the university as the lead institution for the '2019 Industry-Academia Convergence District Development Project.' Together with Gyeongsan City, Solar Light, and 46 other organizations, the 'Gyeongbuk Gyeongsan Industry-Academia Convergence District' was established in the Gyeongsan Knowledge Industry District.
With a project budget of approximately 30 billion KRW, including national funds, new buildings such as the Campus Hall (Industry-Academia Convergence Semiconductor and Robotics Campus), Corporate Research Hall, and Cultural Welfare Hall were constructed.
Through the Industry-Academia Convergence Semiconductor and Robotics Campus, the departments of Semiconductor Electronic Engineering, Robotics Engineering, and Electrical Engineering (for third- and fourth-year students) have been relocated. The university plans to produce specialized professionals for the robotics industry in various fields such as automation systems, healthcare, logistics, disaster management, and daily life services by collaborating with departments in health and medical sciences, social sciences, and others.
President Sung Han-gi of Daegu Catholic University said, "I would like to thank everyone who has continuously worked for the successful establishment of the Gyeongbuk Gyeongsan Industry-Academia Convergence District," and added, "I expect that the Gyeongbuk Gyeongsan Industry-Academia Convergence District will greatly contribute to solving youth unemployment, revitalizing the local economy, and advancing the region's industrial structure."
On the same day, the faculty of the departments of Semiconductor Electronic Engineering, Robotics Engineering, and Electrical Engineering delivered a development fund of 20 million KRW to President Sung Han-gi. The fund will be used for building infrastructure for the Industry-Academia Convergence Semiconductor and Robotics Campus and for scholarships for current students.
