Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 8th that it will conduct a 'Hygiene Management Grade Evaluation' for about one month starting from mid-October targeting 30 food and additive manufacturing and processing businesses.

The hygiene management grade evaluation is conducted annually to assess the hygiene and quality capabilities of food manufacturing and processing companies, allowing differentiated management such as access and inspection sampling for the companies.

This year's evaluation targets include 6 newly evaluated businesses, 12 regular evaluations, and 12 re-evaluations (conducted the following year in cases such as business succession or long-term production suspension), with the city's Hygiene Division conducting on-site evaluations according to the evaluation criteria.

The main evaluation items are ▲ basic survey evaluation of 45 items including company status, scale, and number of employees ▲ basic management evaluation of 47 items such as compliance with the Food Sanitation Act ▲ hygiene management evaluation of 28 items based on excellent facilities and quality control methods.

Based on the evaluation results, companies will be managed differentially as ▲ Self-Managed Companies (companies with excellent hygiene management, exempt from access and inspection for 2 years) ▲ General Management Companies (companies with adequate hygiene management) ▲ Focused Management Companies (companies with insufficient hygiene management, receiving intensive guidance and management at least once a year) to promote efficient hygiene management and enhance the autonomous hygiene management level of manufacturers.

A city official said, "We thank the business operators who actively cooperate with the evaluation and necessary improvement measures. Through this evaluation, we expect to block food production hazards and establish a safe manufacturing and processing environment so that citizens can eat with confidence," adding, "We will continue to actively strive to raise food safety awareness and prevent food accidents in the future."
