Seohae Line Double Track Railway to Open in November, Seobu Inland Expressway in December
Asan City in Chungnam is preparing for the opening of the Seohae Line double-track railway next month and the Seobu Inland Expressway in December.
Asan City in Chungnam is set to become a major hub for the metropolitan transportation network, with the West Sea Double Track Railway scheduled to open next month and the West Inland Expressway connecting in December.
Currently, Asan City is connected to the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway (KTX, SRT), the Seoul Metropolitan Subway, and the Janghang Line Railway, as well as the Gyeongbu Expressway, Korea's first expressway. The Yeomchi~Cheonan section of Expressway No. 32, which connects to the Gyeongbu Expressway, opened in September 2023 and is now in operation.
For expressways in Asan, the east-west Dangjin~Cheonan Expressway is scheduled for completion in 2027. With the north-south West Inland Expressway (Yeongin Interchange) set to open this December and the formation of the Asan Junction, a cross-shaped interchange, a comprehensive metropolitan transportation network spanning east, west, south, and north will be completed.
Additionally, the construction of the West Sea Double Track Railway, which will connect approximately 90 km from Songsan in Gyeonggi Province through Inju Station to Hongseong in Chungnam, is expected to open in November. The new double-track high-speed railway connecting 46.9 km between Pyeongtaek and Osong, passing through 'KTX Cheonan-Asan Station,' is also underway, aiming for completion in 2027.
Furthermore, with the extension of the metropolitan express railway 'GTX-C Line' to Asan being promoted, the speed of urban development is expected to increase significantly thanks to the establishment of new metropolitan transportation networks.
In addition, major arterial road expansion projects such as the reconstruction of Chungmu Bridge, National Road 39 (Jangjon~Oeam) (Yugok~Yeokchon), Local Roads 623 and 628, and National Support Road 70 are also underway, which is expected to greatly improve the transportation infrastructure.
A city official stated, "As Asan is at an important juncture for a new leap forward in industrial and urban development, we will swiftly secure essential infrastructure such as roads and railways to support the city's sustainable growth."
