Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Selects Projects for 'Expansion of Community Sports Facilities' Support Program
Buyeo-gun, Chungnam Province, announced on the 8th that it has secured 3 billion KRW in national funding after being selected for the "Support Project for Expanding Community Sports Facilities" organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This project is a national policy initiative aimed at expanding sports infrastructure to promote the health of seniors by creating sports facilities that are senior-friendly in the era of longevity.
The county was unsuccessful in last year’s application, but this year, thanks to the active promotional efforts of residents in the eastern Buyeo region, objective demand forecasting and analysis, and thorough supplementation of previously lacking aspects regarding the necessity of the construction, it was selected.
The county will invest a total of 9 billion KRW, including 3 billion KRW in national funding, to build a two-story multipurpose gymnasium with a total floor area of 1,950 square meters and two volleyball courts in the area of Jeungsan-ri, Seokseong-myeon.
The basic and detailed design services will be commissioned in December this year, with construction scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025 and the facility expected to open in the first half of 2027.
Park Junghyun, the county governor, said, "With the selection of the Eastern Buyeo Multipurpose Gymnasium construction project, which is one of the pledges of the 8th popularly elected administration, we have created an opportunity to address blind spots in sports and welfare and contribute to improving the health of our residents."
