Pukyong National University Hosts 'Southeast Elementary School Robot and Autonomous Driving Coding Competition'

Over 400 Elementary Students from Busan, Ulsan, and Southeast Region Participate Successfully

The ‘2024 Southeast Region Elementary School Robot and Autonomous Driving Coding Competition’ hosted by Pukyong National University (President Jang Youngsoo) was held successfully with over 400 elementary students from the Southeast region participating.

Organized by the Southeast Region Startup Education Innovation Leading University Project Group (SCOUT, led by Ryu Jiyeol) of Pukyong National University, the competition took place on the 29th at the gymnasium and Dongwon Jangbogogwan. The event was designed to foster entrepreneurship education focused on AI and software, nurture talent in the field of new robot technologies, and promote related startups.


The event attracted more than 900 participants, including 426 elementary students from the Southeast region such as Busan and Ulsan, 418 parents, and other officials.


As a regional preliminary for the 2024 Global Pro Robot Championship (G-PRC), the event featured six categories utilizing robots, coding, and drones.


Participants competed in tournament formats in categories such as Speed Touch Connect, Speed Touch Technique, LED Touch Technique, Soap Push and Run, Creative Coding Mission, and Speed Drone.


Alongside the competitions, there were experience booths including Free Coding, Robot, and Drone Activities, Unplugged Coding Education to develop computational thinking, and Coding Drone Education for integrated problem-solving.


Additionally, entrepreneurship stories from companies related to robots and drones, as well as case study education to foster entrepreneurial spirit, were provided.


Ryu Jiyeol, head of the SCOUT Project Group at Pukyong National University, said, “We expect this event to provide elementary students in the Southeast region with opportunities to grow as talents in AI and software fields such as robotics, coding, and artificial intelligence, and to serve as a catalyst for strengthening cooperation systems among local governments and startup-related entities.”
