First Implementation at Hongje 3 District Reconstruction Site in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul
Pursuing an 'Emotional Urban Renewal Project' through Scenery and Daily Life Photos
Hyundai Construction announced on the 8th that it will carry out a 'Memory Keeping' project at urban renewal sites.
Memory Keeping is part of a project aimed at preserving the image of local communities and maintaining precious memories amid the rapid environmental changes caused by urban renewal projects. Hyundai Construction plans to create photo albums capturing the daily lives and scenery of residents preparing to relocate, thereby preserving the memories of the local community and its residents.
The project consists of three activities: alley and landscape photos, family photos, and longevity photos. Alley and landscape photos involve capturing the nostalgic neighborhood scenery and charming alleyways in photographs. The photos taken will be showcased in an exhibition during the pre-occupancy inspection.
Family photos target the union members. They aim to reflect on the homes where members have lived for a long time and to express hopes and meanings for their new residences after the urban renewal project. Longevity photos are a public service activity for local elders. In cooperation with the district office, longevity photos will be taken of residents near the project site. This activity plans to expand its scope beyond urban renewal union members to include local residents as well.
The first site of implementation is the Hongje 3 District reconstruction site in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul. Together with professional photographers, the site was visited to produce a photo album capturing the neighborhood scenery, and family photos were taken for applicants in consultation with the union. Longevity photo sessions will also be conducted in cooperation with the Seodaemun District Office.
Hyundai Construction expects this approach to help build intimacy with residents and enhance understanding of the project. A Hyundai Construction official stated, "We aim to be a construction company that moves customers’ hearts beyond simply building structures," adding, "We are also discussing expanding this project to urban renewal sites nationwide."
Meanwhile, the Hongje 3 District reconstruction project is currently undergoing funding arrangements and relocation procedures following the completion of construction cost negotiations in March. The complex will consist of 10 buildings with a total of 620 households, ranging from 7 basement floors to 23 basement floors.
