On October 15, World Handwashing Day, infection prevention and handwashing education conducted for about 200 children at daycare centers from October 10 to 15
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that from October 10 to 15, it will conduct infectious disease prevention education and handwashing experience activities for children at daycare centers in celebration of the 17th "Global Handwashing Day."
October 15 is Global Handwashing Day designated by the United Nations (UN). The district organized this event to inform children about the importance of proper handwashing and to prevent infectious diseases.
Eight daycare centers were selected, and education will be provided to about 200 children, divided into morning and afternoon sessions.
The infectious disease prevention education will first be conducted as theoretical education using child education materials, children’s songs, and animated films tailored to the level of children aged 3 and older at the daycare centers.
In the handwashing experience activity, children will use fluorescent lotion and a fluorescent flashlight to directly see the parts of their hands that are not washed well, follow the six steps of proper handwashing, and be guided to practice and habituate handwashing in daily life.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “Proper handwashing alone can prevent many infectious diseases, including COVID-19,” and added, “We will strive to help residents develop healthy living habits and prevent infectious diseases through proper handwashing education and promotion.”
In August, the district also conducted handwashing education for elderly welfare facilities and continues to manage facilities and residents vulnerable to infection to prepare for group infections.
