Mayor Kang Su-hyun of Yangju attended the ‘World Vision 2024 Global 6K for Water Yangju Campaign’ held on the 5th at Okjeong Lake Park and the lawn yard within the city, encouraging the efforts of the organizers.
This event was planned as a global charity run campaign to empathize with the distance of ‘6 km’ that children on the opposite side of the globe walk to obtain water. It was promoted in connection with the ‘2024 Great Festival,’ jointly hosted and organized by the city and the Yangju Christian Council (President Moon Byung-ha).
Participants in the event walked or ran the average distance of ‘6 km’ that children living in developing countries such as Africa walk daily to obtain drinking water, thereby indirectly understanding their hardships.
Mayor Kang said, “I deeply appreciate the efforts of those involved in organizing this meaningful event,” adding, “It is an honor for our city of Yangju to join this global movement, a campaign that began in the United States in 2014 to raise awareness about the drinking water issues faced by African children.”
Meanwhile, the ‘2024 Great Festival’ is a sharing culture festival themed on love for neighbors, featuring various artistic performances including cheerleading by Hanbit School and a magic show by Ham Hyun-jin, as well as traditional family games such as Tuho, Janggi, and Yutnori, creating a harmonious space for all citizens to enjoy.
