Project to Revitalize Business Districts Impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic
How can we revitalize local commercial districts that were devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic?
A performing arts organization has launched a project to bring back the vibrancy of the local market, which used to be bustling with groups of young people and crowds lining up at night and on weekends, but has since quieted down.
The Yangsan Performing Arts Association (President Park Miok) will hold a street performance titled "Visiting Busking, We Revitalize the Commercial District!" on the 12th in the Yari-ro area of Yangsan, where business has yet to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
This nonprofit private organization, which has extensive performance experience, explained that it planned this event to attract people to various commercial districts in Yangsan that have been struggling since COVID-19 through the "Visiting Busking" initiative.
This performance was selected for the "2024 Small-Scale Culture and Arts Event Support Project" by the Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Foundation, and is supported by Gyeongnam Province and the foundation.
The first venue for this project is the commercial street in the Yari-ro area of Yangsan.
This event, featuring performances by enthusiasts in the field of performing arts, will bring together a variety of performance teams from elementary school students to middle-aged adults, as well as adult enthusiasts, to fill the stage for about two hours.
Park Sehun of the Yangsan Performing Arts Association, who is in charge of planning and running this project, said, "It was very challenging for the association to push forward with this project on our own, so I am pleased that we are able to proceed with the support of the Gyeongnam Culture and Arts Foundation."
He added, "We are starting this event with the hope that many cultural activities will unfold on this small street, gradually leading to the revitalization of the commercial district, so we ask for your active participation."
Park Miok, president of the Yangsan Performing Arts Association, emphasized, "In addition to the Visiting Busking Project, we will devote our efforts to the development of local culture and arts through exchanges among enthusiasts in the cultural and artistic fields, revitalization of clubs, and various performing arts activities."
