Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, "We Will Lead Efforts to Create a Pet-Friendly Environment"
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kang-su) will conduct autumn rabies vaccinations for pets from October 16 to October 31 to prevent the occurrence of rabies.
Rabies is a zoonotic disease that can infect both humans and animals, with a high fatality rate, but infection can be prevented through vaccination, making regular annual vaccinations essential.
Accordingly, Mapo-gu will provide a total of 1,300 doses of rabies vaccine free of charge in the second half of this year. Pet owners only need to pay a vaccination fee of 10,000 KRW.
The vaccination targets are dogs and cats aged three months or older. In the case of dogs, vaccination can only be administered if the dog is registered according to the Animal Protection Act, and owners must bring the animal registration certificate when visiting.
The vaccination sites are 39 designated animal hospitals within the district, and the list of hospitals can be checked on the Mapo-gu website.
A district official stated, “If the rabies vaccination support period passes or the vaccine runs out early, pet owners will have to pay the full rabies vaccination fee set by the animal hospitals, so please hurry to get vaccinated within the period.”
For more detailed information about the vaccination, inquiries can be made to the Animal Policy Team of the Economic Promotion Division of Mapo-gu.
Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Rabies vaccination is a necessary procedure for the safety of precious pets and residents, so we hope for active participation in the vaccination.” He added, “Mapo-gu will continue to take the lead in creating a pet-friendly environment to promote a healthy pet culture.”
Mapo-gu has opened and operates a ‘Pet Camping Site’ on a 2,863㎡ site in Nanji Hangang Park. Along with this, the district is implementing various policies such as support for adoption fees for abandoned animals and a neighborhood animal hospital project for pets of vulnerable groups, doing its best for animal welfare and protection.
