Held on the 7th at Yohan-gwan Hongmyeonggi Hall
Sahmyook University held a commemorative ceremony to celebrate its 118th anniversary.
On the 7th, Sahmyook University held the 118th anniversary ceremony at the Hong Myung-gi Hall in Yohangwan on campus. Sahmyook University was established on October 10, 1906, in Sunan, Pyongannam-do, under the name "Uimyung School (의명학교)," and relocated to Nowon-gu, Seoul, in 1949.
About 300 people attended the ceremony, including President Je Hae-jong, heads of various departments, faculty members, staff, and current students.
The event proceeded in the following order: a prayer by Academic Affairs Director Park Cheol-ju, a special choir performance by first-year theology students, a message from Chaplain Choi Kyung-chun, a special performance by the Sumelodia Singers faculty choir, and a commemorative speech by President Je Hae-jong. Awards were also presented to long-term employees (30 years, 20 years, 10 years) and meritorious contributors who have devoted themselves to the university's development over a long period.
In his commemorative speech, President Je emphasized, "The meaning of commemoration lies in remembering the past and opening the future. Sahmyook University was built on the sweat and sacrifice of countless pioneers. With the added efforts and dedication of all of us, we will open a more brilliant future."
President Je continued, "I deeply thank the precious students who constantly strive for the future and all faculty and staff who spare no passion for the university," adding, "I also express deep gratitude for the dedication and sacrifice of seniors and alumni who have faithfully fulfilled the missions entrusted to each era in the 118-year history of the university."
To mark its 118th anniversary, Sahmyook University is carrying out various commemorative projects. The Sahmyook University Museum has prepared a special exhibition titled "Sahmyook People, Sahmyook Love ? Donated Collections Special Exhibition" in the on-site planning exhibition hall from the 1st to the 30th of this month.
On the 12th, a commemorative concert for the 118th anniversary will be held at the Mission 70th Anniversary Hall (main auditorium) on campus. On November 3rd, the President’s Cup Tennis Tournament inviting sister institutions will take place at the campus tennis courts. Additionally, a "YouTube Content Contest" for current students will be held until November 15th.
