Department of Emergency Medical Technology at Dong-Eui Science University Participates in Korea Coast Guard Training Program

The Department of Emergency Medical Technology at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology (President Kim Youngdo, Department Head Park Youngsoo) participated in the field-oriented specialized training program (emergency situations and mass casualty simulation) hosted by the Korea Coast Guard Academy (located in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do) from September 19 to 20.


In this training, trainees of the Korea Coast Guard Emergency Medical Technician Level 2 course and students from the Department of Emergency Medical Technology at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology participated together, conducting field-oriented specialized training on emergency treatment and transport in various scenarios such as cardiac arrest onboard, amputation on board, and falling from a tetrapod.


Additionally, further training was provided on triage and rescue and emergency medical response in the event of mass casualties caused by ship fires or sinking. The focus was on developing the ability to respond quickly and efficiently in emergency situations.


Professor Park Junyoung of the Department of Maritime Rescue (Emergency Medical) at the Korea Coast Guard Academy said, "With the recent increase in emergency situations, we have prepared field-oriented classes to improve the on-site response capabilities of Korea Coast Guard officers, tailored to the unique characteristics of maritime emergency medical situations, including rescue, emergency treatment, and transport."


Park Youngsoo, head of the Department of Emergency Medical Technology at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank the president and professors of the Korea Coast Guard Academy for providing such excellent training," and added, "We will continue to focus on nurturing Level 1 emergency medical technicians to protect the lives and safety of the public."


The Department of Emergency Medical Technology at Dong-Eui University of Science and Technology achieved a 100% pass rate in the national examination for all graduates in February 2024. The department is strengthening major courses tailored to on-site duties for national certification and is making continuous efforts to develop curricula together with field experts every year, aiming to train emergency medical professionals.
