Yangju City conducted the second half of the year apple cultivation technology field training on the 4th with about 30 trainees at local farms. Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 7th that it conducted a second half-year on-site apple cultivation technology training on the 4th with about 30 trainees at local farms.
This on-site training was the final session of a total of six in the second half-year apple cultivation technology education course. It was organized to observe how the theoretical knowledge learned is applied in the field and to acquire practical, up-to-date apple cultivation techniques.
The trainees visited two excellent apple farms in the area to learn firsthand about orchard establishment methods, tree shape management, and multi-axis cultivation technology by observing successful cases on site.
Multi-axis cultivation technology refers to converting the traditional spindle-shaped apple tree form into a multi-axis form ranging from 2 to 10 axes, enabling mechanized flat-type apple cultivation.
Compared to the conventional spindle shape, the tree form is thinner, has higher light transmittance, better airflow, making it more resistant to pests and diseases, and results in a higher proportion of high-quality apples.
In particular, farm work becomes much easier, and mechanization is possible, so the multi-axis cultivation form is expected to expand.
The students who participated in the training said, “Seeing excellent farms in our region successfully cultivating apples using the latest multi-axis cultivation technology made the theory we learned feel much more real,” and added, “We expect that such hands-on training opportunities will continue to activate apple cultivation and greatly help in producing high-quality apples.”
A center official stated, “Through on-site training such as multi-axis cultivation technology that can reduce labor and improve productivity to increase orchard farmers’ income, we will do our best to revitalize apple cultivation in Yangju City and provide continuous educational support.”
