Gyeongnam Information University (President Kim Taesang) recently held a two-day 'Patentopia' startup camp for 27 students at Sono Calm Geoje.
Organized by the LINC 3.0 Project Group, the camp was held under the theme of 'Patent Applications for Intellectual Property Rights to Revitalize Local Startups.' The program included expert lectures and mentoring, team building, hands-on patent application registration, investment attraction (IR) pitching lectures, and a startup idea competition.
Participating students learned key strategies essential for entrepreneurship, such as business planning and market analysis, and refined their startup ideas and business plans with advice from experienced professionals.
In particular, patent education and item development for students interested in entrepreneurship began a month before the camp. On the final day, during the competition, students achieved a total of 10 patent applications?including Damsil Doma (a functional cutting board)?through market research and advancement processes utilizing generative AI.
Chu Hyowon, a student from the Department of Hotel Culinary Arts who participated in the camp, said, "Through this camp, I was able to experience the specific process of how patents are filed," and added, "Expert mentors provided a variety of materials and explanations for patent applications, which was very helpful."
Lim Junwoo, head of the LINC 3.0 Project Group, stated, "Through Patentopia, students were able to gain competitiveness in entrepreneurship by experiencing the importance of intellectual property rights and the actual patent application process," and added, "We will continue to enhance students' practical entrepreneurial skills and fulfill our role as a regional startup hub through various programs."
