Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 7th that it will conduct a comprehensive background check on all administrative staff working at private schools in the province for records of child abuse and sexual crimes, in order to create a safe educational environment for students.

This investigation aims to check whether individuals who have received employment restriction orders due to child abuse-related crimes are currently working at child-related institutions. According to relevant laws, this inspection is mandatory and must be conducted at least once a year.

The inspection covers about 730 administrative staff working at 172 private elementary, middle, high, and special schools in the Gyeongbuk region. Based on the Child Welfare Act and the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse, it will be verified whether those who have been restricted from employment due to child abuse or sexual crimes are working at or operating child-related institutions.

The inspection is carried out through the administrative information sharing system. By uploading the names and resident registration numbers of the subjects to the system, a batch inquiry can be conducted without individual consent. The background check will be completed in October, and the results will be submitted to the Ministry of Education.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to request employment restrictions at the relevant institutions for administrative staff found to have criminal records as a result of the inspection.

Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "We will continue to conduct annual background checks for child abuse and sexual crime records to create a safe educational environment where students can learn with peace of mind."
