Disassembling Fighter Jets, Transporting to Thailand, and Reassembling... CJ Logistics Demonstrates Defense Industry Logistics Capability

CJ Logistics announced on the 7th that it successfully completed a project transporting two T-50TH fighter jets, manufactured by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), to Thailand.

The fighter jets, shipped from the manufacturing plant at the headquarters in Sacheon, Gyeongnam, were safely transported to the Thai Takhli Air Force Base. The process involved disassembling major components, transporting them domestically by land and by air, unloading locally, then transporting by land again before reassembling the complete aircraft at the destination.

Defense industry goods such as fighter jets are directly linked to national security, requiring strict procedures during transportation. If parts are damaged by external shocks during transport, it takes a long time and incurs high costs to reproduce and reassemble them. Failure to meet delivery deadlines can also lead to a decline in national credibility.

CJ Logistics explained that it performed stable logistics by comprehensively analyzing the cargo’s characteristics, transportation methods, road conditions, and external factors such as climate changes. For land transport, vibration-free trailers were deployed. Special waterproof covers were used to prevent damage from rain and corrosion. To prepare for turbulence, the cargo was secured with high-strength elastic belts.

Locally, the transport was escorted by the local corporation and Air Force convoy vehicles to maintain safe distances front and rear. The fighter jets were disassembled into four parts?the fuselage, wings, vertical tail fin, and engine?and transported from Korea to the Thai Air Force base.

In 2022, CJ Logistics transported nine Black Eagles aircraft participating in the UK International Airshow. Last year, it also transported twelve FA-50GF aircraft delivered to Poland over six months. Jang Young-ho, head of CJ Logistics IFS Division, said, "Based on our specialized technology in special cargo transportation, we will demonstrate expertise in defense logistics and contribute to Korea’s leap as a global defense powerhouse."
