Gangbuk-gu Supports Medical, Meal, Care, and Transportation Services in 'Home Medical Care Benefits Project'

Gangbuk-gu Supports Medical, Meal, Care, and Transportation Services in 'Home Medical Care Benefits Project' View of Gangbuk District Office.

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced on the 7th that it is implementing the 'Home-based Medical Aid Project' to support medical aid recipients who have been hospitalized for a long time but are capable of outpatient treatment, enabling them to live comfortably at home instead of in hospital beds.

Started in July, this project involves doctors from partner hospitals visiting the households directly, while participating organizations provide integrated services such as delivery of lunch boxes and side dishes, caregiving, meals, and transportation. The target beneficiaries are medical aid recipients who have been hospitalized for more than one month but have relatively low medical needs and can receive outpatient treatment at home.

Once selected, the district conducts a needs assessment to establish a care plan and provides services accordingly through local partner medical institutions, caregiving and meal service providers, and medical aid managers. The support period can range from one year up to a maximum of two years, depending on the beneficiary’s health condition and living situation.

As an example of the home-based medical aid project, Mr. Park, in his 70s, who was diagnosed with cerebral hemorrhage and hospitalized in a nursing hospital for about 80 days, received housekeeping and caregiving services as well as side dish and lunch box delivery services.

Mr. Park, who has right-sided hemiplegia, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I was afraid to live alone after discharge, but now I can comfortably receive the necessary services in my own home."

District Mayor Lee Soon-hee stated, "We will help home-based medical aid recipients smoothly return to the community and maintain a healthy life," and added, "We will do our best to activate the home-based medical aid project through active identification and management of beneficiaries."
