Approximately 40 people are expected to attend this meeting, including Park Hyungjoon, the Mayor of Busan and Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee for the conference, Park Yoonae, Chairperson of the Korea Central Volunteer Center, as well as advisory committee members, planning committee members, representatives from partner organizations, and sponsors.

Since the launch of the organizing committee last May, which consists of about 20 people from the volunteer sector, media, and the exhibition and MICE industry, advisory and planning committees have been formed. They have played various roles such as promoting the value and importance of volunteer activities in Busan during the conference period and developing a wide range of programs to ensure participants from around the world are satisfied with the event.

The academic events, including keynote speeches, forums, seminars, and an information marketplace, have been designed to highlight the importance of volunteering and explore future directions for volunteer activities by selecting a variety of conference topics.

As side events, there will be exhibitions on volunteer record preservation (archives) and social contribution activities to share the history and current status of volunteering. Participants will also visit major attractions in Busan, such as the UN Memorial Cemetery, Haedong Yonggungsa, and Busan Cinema Center, to showcase the charm of Busan as an international tourism city to the world.

In addition, representatives from partner organizations and sponsoring companies supporting the successful hosting of the Busan World Volunteer Conference will attend the briefing session to pool their wisdom and ensure thorough preparations in the remaining period.

The 18 sponsoring organizations and companies will provide toasts for the official banquet and support conference souvenirs such as cooling bags, notebooks, pens, and miniatures for participants.

The 18 sponsoring organizations include: International Lions Club 355-A (Busan) District, Busan Metropolitan City Corporation, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Kori Nuclear Power Division, Parkland, Golden Blue, Busan City Bus Transportation Association, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Miseong Hi-Tech, Busan Facilities Corporation, Busan Credit Guarantee Foundation, Gyeongbokgung Duty Free, MG Community Credit Cooperative Central Association, Emart, BEXCO Facility Management, Bukhang IBridge Co., Ltd., Shinhan Life Insurance, iCOOP Consumer Cooperative Federation, and Daesun Distilling Co., Ltd.

The ‘27th IAVE 2024 Busan World Volunteer Conference’ will be held under the theme ‘The Power of Humanity, Building a Sustainable Future through Volunteering’ from October 22 to 25 at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX), with more than 1,400 volunteer officials from 94 countries expected to participate.

The World Volunteer Conference is the largest international event in the field of volunteering, organized by the International Association for Volunteer Effort every two years.

The city plans to use this conference to showcase Busan’s volunteer capabilities to the world and strengthen the global volunteer network for achieving sustainable development goals.

Mayor Park Hyungjoon is expected to emphasize, “Through this conference, I hope we can share the diverse activities and values of volunteering, widely promote the importance of volunteering for a sustainable future for humanity, and use this as an opportunity to spread a culture of volunteering and enhance Busan’s brand value. In particular, we will do our utmost to create a warm community and a happy city of Busan through volunteering. With the conference just two weeks away, I urge the city and related organizations to work together organically and prepare thoroughly so that the event can be held safely and successfully.”
