Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told French President Emmanuel Macron that sanctioning Israel would only benefit Iran and its proxies, major foreign media reported on the 6th (local time).
The Israeli Prime Minister's Office stated that during a call with President Macron, Netanyahu said, "Just as Iran supports all 'axes of terror,' Israel's friends must support Israel, and restrictive measures that only strengthen Iran's axis of evil should not be imposed."
The day before, President Macron said on France Inter radio, "The priority is to return to a political solution," adding, "We must stop supplying weapons used in the Gaza Strip war. France does not supply any weapons."
In response, Netanyahu criticized in a video speech on the same day, "Israel is defending itself on seven fronts against the enemies of civilization," and "But President Macron and other Western leaders are demanding a ban on arms exports to Israel. This is shameful."
The ?lys?e Palace stated that while President Macron expressed support for Netanyahu, he also expressed confidence that "it is now time for a ceasefire."
