Long Novel 'Daetgeulbudae' Author Jang Kang-myeong Invited Lecture, Jazz Performance and Other Pre-Events Held
2024 Business Performance Report and Election of Next Executive City
First Ever Award Ceremony for Outstanding Member Cities by the National Book Reading Cities Association
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will hold the 2nd regular general meeting of the "National Book Reading Cities Association" on October 7th at the Geumcheon-gu Office auditorium.
The "National Book Reading Cities Association" was established in 2018 to spread a reading culture and create a book-reading community society through exchange and cooperation among book-reading cities nationwide. Twenty-eight local governments across the country are participating, and Geumcheon-gu has served as the chair city of the association since 2021.
As a pre-event to the regular general meeting, a performance by the jazz trio Bluewit and a book concert featuring author Jang Kang-myung, well known for his novels "Because I Hate Korea" and "Comment Army," are scheduled.
At the general meeting, awards will be presented to outstanding member cities of the "National Book Reading Cities Association" that have contributed to the development of the association.
Following this, the 2024 business performance report of the "National Book Reading Cities Association" will be presented. With this regular general meeting, Geumcheon-gu will conclude its four-year term as the chair city, and the election of the next executive city is expected.
Since 2021, as the chair city of the "National Book Reading Cities Association," the district has shared the value of reading and worked to expand book-reading cities. Every year, it has promoted the creation of book-reading communities, held regular general meetings and workshops to strengthen the capabilities of working-level staff, and conducted contests for excellent reading programs.
In 2022, to promote the association and recruit members, a white paper summarizing four years of activities and representative reading promotion policies of each member city was published and distributed to local governments nationwide.
Additionally, every year, a contest for excellent reading programs has been held targeting member cities to continuously support the discovery of reading promotion policies.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "As the chair city of the association for four years, we have supported various reading culture activities and projects. Going forward, we will actively participate as a member of the association to foster and expand book-reading cities."
