The Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly's Special Committee for the Establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province held its 6th special committee meeting on the 4th at the Northern Branch of the Provincial Assembly.

On this day, the special committee received a business report on the "Gyeonggi Northern Grand Renovation Project" from the executive branch, with five members from the People Power Party including Chairman Lee Hanguk, Vice Chairman Yoon Jongyoung, and members Lim Kwanghyun, Lim Sango, and Jeong Gyeongja, as well as three members from the Democratic Party including Vice Chairman Oh Seokgyu, Park Jaeyong, and Lee Inkyu in attendance.
The Gyeonggi Northern Grand Renovation Project focuses on maximizing the growth potential of northern Gyeonggi through four major sectors and eight core tasks.
In particular, it contains a concrete action plan starting with what Gyeonggi Province can do to establish the Northern Special Autonomous Province.
In the subsequent discussion on the special committee’s activity plan, Chairman Lee Hanguk stated, "The enactment of a special law is essential for the establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Autonomous Province, and cooperation among the central government, local governments, basic local governments within the province, and residents is very important." He added, "We will make every effort to legislate the special law through continuous communication between the province and the provincial council, and strive to build consensus so that residents can feel the necessity."
Meanwhile, the special committee’s activity period was extended by one year last July.
