Sonid, a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 4th that it has formed a strategic partnership with global defense company Defense Global and Kazakhstan's state-owned enterprise, the Kazakhstan Engineering R&D Center, to develop defense and AI (artificial intelligence) technologies and build infrastructure.
The signing ceremony was attended by Sonid CEO Oh Jung-geon and Kazakhstan Engineering R&D Center CEO Gani Baiseitov.
The Kazakhstan Engineering R&D Center is a company that develops technologies in unmanned aviation, radio electronics and communications, and armored vehicle maintenance. Its main product is the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Shagala-M, which is capable of reconnaissance, search and rescue, communication linkage, and tracking.
The Kazakhstan Engineering R&D Center is a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Engineering, a defense group established by the Kazakhstan government to consolidate state-owned defense enterprises.
Sonid CEO Oh Jung-geon stated, “The Kazakhstan Engineering R&D Center is a company with outstanding technology in the defense sector, especially active in the development of unmanned aerial vehicles. Our company has been enhancing AI technology through our subsidiary Sonid AI, and recently introduced Brainbot. We expect the Kazakhstan business of Brainbot to progress rapidly through this strategic partnership.”
Meanwhile, the Korean government is promoting the ‘K-Central Asia K-Silk Road Cooperation Initiative’ following President Yoon Suk-yeol’s visit to three Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan) in June. Kazakhstan is South Korea’s largest trading partner in Central Asia, with many Korean companies already entering infrastructure and plant projects there.
