Autumn Mountain Accidents Continue Across Gyeonggi-do... Hikers Urged to Stay Safe Members of the Gyeonggi-do Northern Fire and Disaster Headquarters are rescuing an injured person at Yebongsan Mountain in Namyangju on the 3rd.

As the cool weather draws more hiking visitors, mountain accidents have been occurring consecutively, prompting fire authorities to issue warnings.


According to the Northern Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 4th, on the 3rd, hiking accidents occurred in Namyangju, Goyang, and Yangju, respectively, leading fire authorities to conduct rescue operations.




At around 9:40 a.m. that day, a 119 emergency call was received reporting that a woman in her 70s, Ms. A, was injured and unable to move on Yebongsan Mountain in Paldang-ri, Wabu-eup, Namyangju.


Ms. A fell about 6 meters down a steep slope after tripping over a rock while climbing the mountain, sustaining head bleeding and facial lacerations.


The fire authorities judged that rapid transport was necessary and deployed a fire helicopter to rescue Ms. A and transport her to a hospital.

Later that day, at around 12:58 p.m., a report was received that a woman in her 30s, Ms. B, suffered an ankle fracture due to a fall near the rock gate of Baegunbong Peak on Bukhansan Mountain in Deogyang-gu, Goyang.


In response, the fire authorities dispatched a fire helicopter to rescue Ms. B and transport her to a nearby hospital.


Then, at around 2:32 p.m., near the summit of Obongsan Mountain in Jangheung-myeon, Yangju, a woman in her 60s experienced leg cramps that made movement difficult and was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital.


A representative from the Northern Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters said, "As the weather cools, the number of autumn hikers is increasing, leading to more mountain accidents. We urge hikers to perform sufficient stretching focusing on the legs and feet before and after hiking, and to immediately call 119 in case of emergencies such as getting lost."


They added, "It is advisable to start hiking early and descend before 4 p.m. during autumn when daylight hours shorten compared to summer. For safety, always equip proper safety gear and use designated hiking trails."
