Boryeong City Holds Exhibition Showcasing the Tradition and Beauty of Nampo Byeoru

Boryeong City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 4th that it will hold the 'Birth of the Inkstone' activity exhibition for four days from the 10th to the 13th at the Art Platform on the 2nd floor of the Original Downtown Community Center as part of the project to revitalize the Intangible Heritage Transmission Education Center.

This exhibition is organized by the Cultural Heritage Administration, Chungcheongnam-do, and Boryeong City, and hosted by the Nampo Byeoru Transmission Trainee Artists Association (President Kim Jinhan).

President Kim Jinhan is a master craftsman (Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 6) recognized as the best inkstone maker in Korea, carrying on the family business for three generations.

For this exhibition, the city conducted education programs from May to September at the Nampo Byeoru Transmission Education Center (located in Ipyeong-ri, Cheongra-myeon), introducing the history, culture, and production of Nampo Byeoru, as well as hands-on inkstone-making experiences.

'Birth of the Inkstone' has been selected as a project by the Cultural Heritage Administration for four consecutive years from 2022 to next year, and in 2022, it was chosen as an excellent program.

Mayor Kim Dongil said, "Nampo Byeoru has long been renowned for its excellent stone quality and was a favorite of Chusa Kim Jeonghee. I hope that through this exhibition, more people will come to appreciate the history, culture, and excellence of Boryeong inkstones."
