Gyeonggi-do Job Foundation Supports Industrial Accident Insurance Premiums for 2,800 Platform Workers... 12,040 Won Poster for Gyeonggi-do Job Foundation's 'Platform Workers' Industrial Accident Insurance Premium Support Project'

The Gyeonggi-do Job Foundation will support 2,800 platform workers in the province with industrial accident insurance premiums of 12,040 KRW per year.

On the 4th, the Job Foundation announced that from the 7th of this month to the 4th of next month, it will select the second round of participants for the "2024 Platform Workers Industrial Accident Insurance Support Project" to ensure a safe working environment for platform workers.

First implemented nationwide in 2021, this project was established to protect workers who work through digital platforms, such as delivery workers, designated driver workers, and freight truck owners.

The program supports 80% of the industrial accident insurance premium burden paid by platform workers, up to a maximum of 12,040 KRW per month for one year. Unlike last year, this year the support target has been expanded to include freight truck owners.

Gyeonggi-do has supported a total of 9,432 cases over three years from 2021, the first year of introduction, through 2023. This year, support will be provided to 2,800 platform workers in the province.

When platform workers apply, the process verifies their industrial accident insurance enrollment and premium payment status through the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service and the National Health Insurance Service, and then provides the support funds. Priority is given first to those with lower income, and second to new applicants in 2024.

Applications can be submitted through the Job Foundation’s integrated application system, Jobaba Apply (apply.jobaba.net).

Eligibility requires applicants to be residents of Gyeonggi-do as of the announcement date and to be enrolled in industrial accident insurance as food or quick service delivery workers, designated drivers, or freight truck owners.

Required documents include ▲support application form ▲consent form for collection, use, and provision of personal information to third parties ▲copy of a bankbook in the applicant’s name ▲confirmation of worker’s industrial accident insurance premium payment (issued by the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service). Documents must be issued within one month of the announcement date.

Yoon Deok-ryong, CEO of the Gyeonggi-do Job Foundation, stated, "We expect this project to contribute not only to the prevention of industrial accidents and protection of workers but also to enhancing workers’ self-esteem as workers." He added, "Especially after the abolition of the exclusivity requirement in July last year, this will greatly help improve awareness of industrial accident insurance."
