DeepMind Platform (hereinafter DeepMind) announced on the 4th that it will pilot the 'Hiking Trail Safety Monitoring System' in collaboration with Geumcheon-gu Office in Seoul using the AI drone 'Tethered Drone,' jointly developed with Clover Studio, a company specializing in unmanned mobility control platforms. This system is attracting attention as a groundbreaking technology to prevent unexpected disasters and crimes such as the Itaewon incident and the Gwanaksan murder case.
Hiking trail safety goes beyond simple accident prevention and is directly linked to protecting citizens' lives. This project aims for DeepMind and Geumcheon-gu Office to cooperate with related organizations such as fire departments, police, and military to utilize drone technology to monitor risk factors in real-time on major hiking trails located in Geumcheon-gu and to prevent safety accidents through prompt response.
The 'Tethered Drone' can fly for extended periods from a fixed position, enabling efficient surveillance over wide areas. It analyzes video data collected from drones deployed throughout the hiking trails in real-time to immediately identify threat situations and manage the safety of hikers accordingly.
A DeepMind representative explained, "This drone is an innovative security solution that can replace existing CCTV systems," adding, "It has the advantage of monitoring a wide area in real-time not only from fixed positions but also by flying freely."
They continued, "This system is expected to significantly contribute not only to hiking trail safety accidents but also to disaster and crime prevention," emphasizing, "It will play an important role in establishing a nationwide safety management system through drones in the future."
A drone industry official stated, "Safety management through drone technology is expected to expand nationwide, presenting a new paradigm that can prevent disasters and accidents in advance."
Following this pilot operation, Geumcheon-gu Office plans to expand drone-based safety monitoring throughout Geumcheon-gu, including Geumcheon Sports Park, Hoapsa Temple, and Forest Trail Park.
The Geumcheon-gu Office said, "Through cooperation with DeepMind, we will prevent safety accidents and regularly expand safety monitoring using drones."
