October 4: Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market Highlights Sundae Alley with Retro Food and Couple Events... October 25-26: Seonyudo Alley Features Beer Zone and Emotional Food with Old Shops Theme
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold a ‘Food Culture Festival’ where visitors can enjoy food under the night sky at Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market and the Seonyudo Station Alley Shopping District to welcome the cool autumn season.
This festival is a self-hosted event held in each commercial area after Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market and Seonyudo Station Alley Shopping District were selected in Seoul’s ‘Nighttime and Food Culture Revitalization Support Project’ competition.
First, on October 4th from 3 PM, the ‘Together Harmony Festival’ will be held at Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market. The previously held ‘Harmony Concert’ at Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market has been uniquely revamped so that younger generations can also enjoy it. Trot singer Kim Yang, along with merchants participating in the ‘Pride of Sundae Alley’ singing contest, will beautifully decorate the autumn night with their melodies. In particular, various experiential activities that will captivate the MZ generation recently fascinated by retro culture will be offered, including ▲‘I am the Artisan’ Sundae Cutting ▲Couple Certification Event ▲Retro Food Tasting. By infusing retro sensibility into a market traditionally frequented by older generations, the festival aims to attract younger customers.
At the alley shopping district near Seonyudo Station, the Nopo Festival will be held from the 25th to the 26th, from 5 PM to 10 PM. The Seonyudo Station Alley Shopping District is a self-grown commercial area where sentimental cafes and restaurants gather, offering the charm and potential to enjoy the scenic waterfront spaces of Seonyudo Park and Yanghwa Hangang Park. This festival, held in conjunction with the ‘Seonyudowon Festival’ during the same period, is themed ‘Intoxicated by Freshness’ and highlights traditional long-established stores (Nopo) and beer. Visitors can enjoy a cool beer at the ‘Fresh Beer Zone’ in the Nopo area, along with small concerts.
Through this festival, the district expects Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market and Seonyudo Station Alley Shopping District to break away from their traditional images and develop into the central commercial areas of southwestern Seoul and nighttime food tourism destinations, offering diverse shops, activities, and entertainment.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We will generously support the transformation of traditional markets to revitalize the local economy and promote coexistence with surrounding commercial areas. We will strive to create a commercial district that embraces not only the older generation but also domestic and international tourists and young people, with a retro sensibility.”
