Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will implement a pilot project using drone technology to patrol areas vulnerable to crime, such as parks and hiking trails.

Following the murder incident on the Gwanaksan hiking trail in August last year, the district introduced a pilot safety patrol project using drones to ensure the safety of hiking trail users, who are considered to be in safety blind spots, and to prevent crime.

Drones will be used in conjunction with patrol activities by park safety guards and the Geumcheon Police Station patrol team. The drones will fly over major hiking trails, capturing wide areas, and patrol blind spots that on-site patrol teams may have missed.

Videos captured by the drones will also be used to inspect various forest hazards such as wildfires, pests, falling rocks, and dangerous trees, which is expected to improve forest management efficiency.

The district is also carrying out a project to install intelligent closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) at key points to prevent crimes that may occur in blind spots of major hiking trails and parks. After surveying appropriate locations, 56 additional CCTV units will be installed.

Emergency bells will be additionally installed in restrooms and various points along hiking trails. When the emergency bell is pressed, the police station responds and dispatches officers to the scene immediately depending on the situation.

Meanwhile, to ensure residents' safety, the district signed a business agreement with Geumcheon Police Station (Chief Yang Seung-ho) on the 25th. The agreement includes ▲ regular patrols of hiking trails vulnerable to crime ▲ active identification and maintenance of safety weaknesses at each hiking trail point ▲ expansion of safety facilities such as CCTV and emergency bells.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "The most important matter in district administration is the safety of residents above all else," adding, "We will mobilize all necessary resources such as CCTV, emergency bells, and drones in line with the increased hiking activities in autumn to protect the safety of our residents."
