On the afternoon of the 2nd, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 3rd that it held the '2024 Regional Public Safety Council' and the '7th Safety Culture Salon Regular Meeting' jointly with related organizations including the city, education, police, and fire departments at the city hall reception room.

The Regional Public Safety Council was attended by Mayor Lee, Kim Jong-gil, Chief of Yongin Dongbu Police Station, Kim Byung-rok, Chief of Yongin Seobu Police Station, Ahn Ki-seung, Chief of Yongin Fire Station, Kim Hee-jung, Superintendent of Yongin Office of Education, Jang Jae-gu, Chief of Yongin Seobu Fire Station, as well as heads of each institution, and officials from city departments such as Giheung-gu Public Health Center, Future City Planning Bureau, and Traffic Policy Bureau to discuss cooperation measures for crime prevention and response.

Mayor Lee emphasized, "As the population increases, the demand for public safety inevitably rises. We should not place the burden of public safety solely on the police but strengthen cooperation among related organizations in prevention and response."

The council discussed ▲ securing emergency hospitalization beds for mental illness ▲ promoting the Integrated Addiction Management Support Center ▲ replacing and expanding security CCTV ▲ maintaining facilities to prevent traffic accidents involving the elderly ▲ expanding the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) ▲ focused promotion of major public safety issues.

Mayor Lee said, "I heard concerns that during police night patrols, protective measures for people with mental illnesses take an average of about 3 hours and 30 minutes, which could create gaps in public safety. Next year, we will invest 200 million KRW in securing emergency hospitalization beds exclusively for Yongin citizens with mental illnesses."

The council also decided to intensively promote awareness among citizens about recent issues such as sales fraud, investment fraud, and voice phishing by using newsletters from each institution and social networking services (SNS) to inform about fraud methods and damage cases.

Following the Public Safety Council, the Safety Culture Salon discussed measures to strengthen prevention and response to electric vehicle fires. The Safety Culture Salon is a consultative body proposed by Mayor Lee, where key heads of Yongin City institutions regularly gather to discuss city safety-related issues.

At the meeting, details of the 'Electric Vehicle Fire Safety Management Measures' announced by the government last month and the city's implementation status were shared with each institution. Previously, the city enacted an ordinance on eco-friendly vehicles recommending the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities above ground, revised the joint housing review standards to install dedicated thermal imaging CCTV in charging zones, and conducted joint inspections of electric vehicle charging facilities in 19 apartment complexes twice. At the end of last month, the city, Yongin Fire Station, and local residents also conducted a joint electric vehicle fire suppression drill.

Mayor Lee urged, "Let us strive to create the safest possible environment and ensure that related organizations respond closely not only with prompt initial action in case of electric vehicle fires but also to prevent secondary damage."
