"In the Presidential Election, We Will Unite with the Democratic Party... But for Now, Competition in Honam"
Jo Guk, leader of the Jo Guk Innovation Party, addressed concerns from supporters about the possibility of the opposition splitting due to fierce competition between the Democratic Party and the Innovation Party in the by-elections in the Honam region, a stronghold of the opposition, on the 3rd. He said, "Do you think I want the People Power Party regime to be reestablished?" and added, "Put those worries aside."
On the same day, while campaigning in support of Jang Hyun, candidate for the re-election of Yeonggwang County Governor in Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang, Jo stated, "Even if a knife is at my throat, I will not join hands with Yoon Seok-yeol and the People Power Party regime."
Jo said, "You can know the future by looking at a person's past. Do you think I would kneel before the Yoon Seok-yeol and Kim Geon-hee regime?" and promised, "In the presidential election, the Jo Guk Innovation Party and the Democratic Party will unite."
However, he added, "This is not the presidential election right now. Currently, in Honam including Yeonggwang, the parties and candidates will compete to see who can implement proper policies and conduct an honest county administration," and said, "I am confident that this competition will help the development of Honam."
