"Chuncheon-si to Achieve Substantial Gender Equality"

On the 7th, the '23rd Chuncheon Gender Equality Festival' Held
Mayor Yuk: "Sharing Equal Responsibilities and Rights Between Men and Women in All Areas"

Chuncheon City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Yuk Dong-han) will hold the '23rd Chuncheon Gender Equality Festival' on the 7th at 2 PM in the main conference room under the slogan "Steps Toward Equality, Achieving Together in Chuncheon."

A Chuncheon city official stated, "This year's Gender Equality Festival has been changed from a women's festival to a gender equality festival in accordance with the 2015 Gender Equality Act to reflect the times, and will be conducted as a festival to create practical gender equality in Chuncheon."

This year's Chuncheon Gender Equality Festival will consist of Part 1, a commemorative ceremony, and Part 2, a citizen academy. Part 1 will begin with a sand art opening performance, followed by the reading of the Gender Equality Charter, awards for meritorious persons, and a thematic performance involving citizen representatives by gender and age. Part 2, the citizen academy, will feature a special lecture titled "Happiness is Now, Right Away" by former SBS announcer Yoon Young-mi.

As a side event, to achieve practical gender equality, seven empathy booths from women's rights promotion facilities will be operated to find solutions to the issue of violence against women, which requires the interest and concern of everyone regardless of gender.

Chuncheon City plans to open the Bomnae Women's Complex Community Center in November this year to address the gender wage gap issue, where South Korea ranks lowest among gender equality indices. The center will provide startup spaces, consulting, education, and community activation projects for women who have experienced career interruptions.

Mayor Yuk Dong-han of Chuncheon said, “We will carefully examine areas where gender equality has not been achieved between men and women, and discover and continuously support projects so that women and men can share equal responsibilities and rights in all fields, thereby achieving practical gender equality.”
