Namyangju City Hosts Senior Day Celebration Event with Senior Flea Market Namyangju City is holding the 28th Senior Citizens' Day commemorative event at the Namyangju Sports and Culture Center on the 2nd in celebration of Senior Citizens' Day.

Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) held the 28th Senior Citizens' Day commemorative event on the 2nd at the Namyangju Sports and Culture Center under the theme "A Vibrant Old Age of Sharing, Donating, and Volunteering."

Hosted by the Namyangju branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association, the event was attended by about 1,200 people, including Mayor Joo Gwang-deok, local senior citizens, and heads of institutions and social organizations.

The ceremony began with a reading of the Senior Citizens' Charter by a senior representative, followed by an awards ceremony recognizing those who contributed to senior welfare and exemplary senior citizens. Mayor Joo Gwang-deok also delivered an encouraging speech.

For the congratulatory performances, the Pyongyang National Unification Art Troupe’s Han Su-ae performed on the gayageum, followed by performances from the married popera singers Victoria and trot singer Choi Yeon-hwa, which received great applause from the senior audience.

In the plaza in front of the Sports and Culture Center, a flea market organized by senior citizens’ branches was held to raise funds for year-end aid to underprivileged neighbors, providing an opportunity to purchase daily necessities at affordable prices. Additionally, health experience booths from the public health center focusing on oral health and dementia prevention, sales of products made by the senior job project group, a silver hair salon, coffee, and free nurungji (scorched rice) tasting booths were set up, offering a variety of experiences.

Mayor Joo Gwang-deok said, “It is meaningful to see seniors sharing with each other, volunteering, and enjoying a vibrant old age,” adding, “This event was especially significant with the addition of the flea market prepared by the Senior Citizens Association.”

He continued, “I thank all the seniors who have worked hard to attract the Gyeonggi-do Public Medical Center, and I will strive even more to create a ‘Namyangju City Beyond Imagination’ that respects seniors 365 days a year.”

Meanwhile, the city is making various efforts to enhance senior welfare. The Dasan Senior Welfare Center was opened last August, and the design for the Byeollae Senior Welfare Center, scheduled to open in the second half of 2026, is underway. The senior job project will also be gradually expanded.
