The government expressed "deep concern" on the 2nd regarding the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a spokesperson's statement on the same day, saying, "Now is the time to break the vicious cycle of provocation and retaliation and seek diplomatic solutions," and added, "The government once again urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint for this purpose."
Earlier, Iran announced that it had launched about 200 missiles targeting military and security sites on Israeli mainland the previous day. Iran claimed this was retaliation for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, who visited Tehran, the capital of Iran, to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Masoud Pezeshkian at the end of July.
