Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 2nd that on the 30th of last month, a joint inspection involving the public, private sector, and police was conducted to prevent electronic (digital) sex crimes. The inspection targeted public and privately accessible restrooms around Hoeryong Station on Line 1 and the Gyeonggang Light Rail Transit Hoeryong Station area.
This inspection was carried out with the participation of members from the Uijeongbu branch of the Gyeonggi-do Women's Association and cooperation from the Women and Youth Division of the Uijeongbu Police Station. It focused on four restroom locations, including the Hoeryong Station Line 1 station, which are frequently used by citizens.
Using detection equipment (lens and radio wave detectors), inspectors thoroughly checked for illegal filming devices installed on toilet lids, ceilings, and ventilation ducts. Warning stickers were attached to any scratches or holes found.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun stated, “With the recent increase in sex crimes using advanced AI-based manipulation technology (deepfake), awareness of electronic (digital) sex crimes is more necessary than ever. We will continue to conduct regular inspections to ensure that citizens can use restrooms with peace of mind.”
Meanwhile, the city operates a free rental service for illegal filming device detection equipment. Anyone can rent the equipment by applying via phone and visiting in person with an ID.
