Yoo Seung-min: "If President Yoon Fails, Ruling Party Must Decide on Kim Geon-hee and Chae Sang-byeong"

"Kim Geon-hee, This Is Not a Matter to End with an Apology"
"Conservatives Face Collapse Crisis Entrusting to Mercenaries from Prosecutor Background"

Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min criticized President Yoon Seok-yeol for exercising his right to request reconsideration (veto) on the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act and the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act, which passed the National Assembly on the 2nd. Yoo stated, "If the president cannot act, the ruling party must make a decision," expressing that the People Power Party should accept the bills. He also said, "We must be upright so that when Representative Lee Jae-myung receives a guilty verdict, we can confidently demand his permanent expulsion."

On the same day, through social media (SNS), Representative Yoo criticized President Yoon and People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon’s stance on the so-called double special prosecutors (Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act and Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act) and urged the party to make a decision. He pointed out, "The president, who once said 'those who reject special prosecutors are the culprits,' has again rejected the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act and the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act," adding, "It is neither common sense nor in line with the constitutional spirit that 'all citizens are equal before the law' for the president, who is a party concerned in the allegations against himself and his spouse, to exercise the veto right on the special prosecutor acts." He continued, "The president, who said he 'does not pledge loyalty to any person,' is incomprehensibly loyal only to the First Lady," and stated, "The various suspicions surrounding the First Lady, including receiving luxury bags, stock manipulation, interference in candidate nominations, and involvement in state affairs, cannot be resolved with just one apology from her."

Former lawmaker Yoo said, "It must be handled according to the law," and added, "If the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission ignored it and the prosecution decided not to indict, it does not mean the issue disappears; that is not a democratic republic." He further added, "The stock manipulation case, where evidence of falsehoods has been gradually revealed, is sufficient grounds for a special prosecutor, especially considering that the prosecution has so far neither indicted nor pursued the case."

Regarding the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act, he said, "Leader Han promised the people and became party leader on this law," and added, "Leader Han has reversed his promise and cannot say a word against the president’s exercise of the veto right. It is not about private meetings but about keeping promises to the people and acting for what is right."

He also expressed regret over the political situation being blocked by the double special prosecutor acts. Former lawmaker Yoo said, "There are so many reform tasks that must be done to break the vicious cycle of low growth, low birthrate, and polarization and move toward a virtuous cycle of growth and welfare," adding, "The immediate collapse of the medical system must also be resolved quickly to protect the lives of the people." He said, "New challenges in diplomacy and security are piling up, including the U.S. presidential election, the launch of the Ishiba administration in Japan, Korea-China relations, wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, North Korea’s nuclear threats, and the new alliance among North Korea, China, and Russia," and added, "At this critical time when the nation’s survival is at stake, we are caught up in the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act and the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act and cannot solve any problems. If this continues, what can the Yoon Seok-yeol administration do for the country’s future during the remaining half of its term?"

He also voiced self-reflection on conservative politics. He said, "Conservatives chose to entrust everything to two mercenaries from the prosecution background. But now, conservatism is facing a crisis of collapse," and added, "The responsibility lies not with the mercenaries but with conservatism itself."
