On the last day of the Chuseok holiday, the police took protective measures for a woman in her 20s who was wandering around holding her 40-day-old baby.

According to the Jongno Police Station in Seoul on the 2nd, at around 2:30 a.m. on the 19th of last month, a 112 emergency call was received requesting protection for a woman in her 20s in Jongno-gu. Officer Im Hyun-ho of the Gwan-su Police Substation, who responded to the scene, found a woman in her 20s, Ms. A, talking to herself incoherently on the street while holding the baby. The woman showed signs of distress, saying things like "I don't know why I am here," "I came to my senses and found myself here," and "I am currently taking psychiatric medication."

Officer Im then put Ms. A and the baby into the patrol car and took them to the police substation. The baby showed symptoms of dehydration, but Ms. A refused to breastfeed, saying she could not do so. After talking with Ms. A, the staff learned that she had not breastfed for a long time. Then, Officer An Kyung-soo cleverly requested help from a nearby postpartum care center. Upon hearing the situation, the care center willingly provided formula and diapers. The police officers who brought these supplies changed the baby's diaper and fed the baby formula themselves. Later, they safely handed over Ms. A and the baby to the family who came after being contacted.

Officer An, who is raising a 3-year-old son, said, "It reminded me of when my son was a newborn, so I felt more sympathy," and added, "I am grateful to the postpartum care center for willingly helping even at such an early hour."
